This is a non-invasive procedure and, in most cases, doesn’t require the animal to be shaved, However if she is particularly hairy under her stomach then she may need to be as this can reduce the quality of the scan, shaving the area will allow satisfactory contact between the probe and the skin. I advise to scan around day 30-35 for best results. Ultrasound scanning can be beneficial for many reasons from Distinguishing between a pregnancy or having a phantom pregnancy, it also gives the opportunity to detect other issues such as foetal reabsorption and pyometra.
